Christ's Gospel Is Adequate for the Needs of All

While it is said of Jesus, "And the common people heard Him gladly" (Mk 12:37b), we must not read into this that the gospel is not preached to all (Mt 11:28-30). Whatever your status in life, Jesus effectively appeals to you through the gospel.

The Gospel of Christ Is:

1. Free
The poor can obtain it. Jesus said: "...and the poor have the gospel preached to them" (Matt. 11:5b). (See also Matt. 28:19; Mk 16:15, 16.)

2. Plain
The uneducated can understand it. Paul said: "...Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge..." (Eph. 3:1-6). (See also 2 Tim. 2:7; Prov. 28:11, 15:19; Psa. 119:130, 104; Eph. 5:17; 2 Cor. 3:12.)

3. Equalizing
The humble are raised by it and the proud are humbled by it. (See 1 Pet. 5:6; Jas. 4:10; Matt. 23:12, 18:4.)

4. The Power of God to Save Sinners
Paul said: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Rom. 1:16). (See also 2 Thess. 1:7-10; 1 Pet. 1:22, 23; Acts 2:38; Mk 16:16; Gal. 3:26, 27; Acts 10:34, 35.)

5. Encouraging
The depressed or discouraged are encouraged by it. The Hebrew writer wrote, "...for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me (Heb. 13:5, 6)" (See also 2 Cor. 1:8-11; Rom. 8:31-39; Phil. 4:13.)

6. Comforting
It consoles the sorrowful. Paul tells us God is "... the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God" (2 Cor. 1:3, 4). (See also 1 Thess. 4:13-18.)

7. Compensating
It rewards all who believe and obey it for their faith and labors of love. See: Mk 10:28-30; Matt. 6:33; Heb. 6:10; 1 Tim. 4:8; 1 Jn 2:25; 2 Tim. 4:6-8, 22:14; 1 Pet. 1:4.
