The Great Day Of Judgment

The Bible speaks of a Judgment Day. “And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). This appointment cannot be canceled nor can it be avoided. The Day of Judgment is certain, inevitable, and there is no way to escape it. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10). There is nothing hidden from the Lord. He knows everything about us. “For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecc. 12:14).

The Judgment Day has already been appointed. “Because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained” (Acts 17:31). No one will be overlooked or left out. Judgment is certain. “All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats” (Matt. 25:32). That judgment will be based upon the words of the New Testament. Jesus says, “the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (John 12:48).

The Day of Judgment will surprise many. It will be a shock for the majority of people—even professed Christians. Jesus says, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you, depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” (Mat. 7:22-23).

Imagine having thought you were a true Christian but in the end hearing the words, “I never knew you, depart from me.” The thought of possibly hearing those scary words should cause us open our hearts to what the Bible really teaches and to be diligent in study and service so we will here the welcome words, “Well done…enter into the joy of your Lord” (Matt. 25:31).

Since “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Heb. 10:31) our number one priority in this life should be to prepare to stand before the Lord in judgment. Are you ready for Judgment Day to come?
