The Law of Moses or the Law of Christ? Part 1

It is important that Christians understand the subject under study because there is ONE standard in religion and to not follow it is to not follow God.

The Law of Moses was for the Jews Only. Moses declared that the Law was between God and the nation of Israel, not with other nations (Deuteronomy 5:1). See also Galatians 3:21.

The prophet Jeremiah foretold of a new covenant to come (Jeremiah 31:31-33). Jesus fulfilled the Law to make way for this new covenant or law, which is the "law of Christ. The gospels of the New Testament record the birth and ministry of Jesus, the Messiah. He lived under the Law of Moses, faithfully obeyed the Law, and encouraged others of that time to obey the Law. But Jesus Himself said "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John..." (Luke 16:16). Jesus also spoke of fulfilling the Law when He said "not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:17-18). The Law did not fail; it did exactly what it was intended to do--bring the world to Christ, and therefore it was properly fulfilled. We learn from Colossians 2:14 that Christ's death "cancelled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross." Thus Christ in His death for all mankind satisfied the requirements of the Law and brought it to its rightful end.
