The “Holy Quran”

In the last three years our President has on numerous occasions referred to the Quran as the “Holy Quran.” Yet when he speaks of the Bible he does not call it the “Holy Bible.” Does the Quran deserve to be elevated above the Judeo-Christian Bible?

The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims consider the verbatim word of God and the Final Testament following the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Thus, Muslims recognize the Bible as the word of God. But is the Quran really from God? If it recognizes the Bible as being from God and the Bible leaves no place for the Quran, then Bible believers must view it as a product of men and treat it as such. It is strange that the Quran recognizes the Bible but Muslims do not recognize Christians who are products of the Bible. To them Christians are infidels who must convert to Islam or be killed.

Paul wrote, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim. 3:16,17). Does this text leave room for MORE scripture 500 years into the future? How about the following text? “…Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3). If the faith has already been delivered, what purpose would another testament or revelation serve?

John wrote, “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book” (Rev. 22:18). In view of this clear statement, what more needs to be said regarding any post New Testament revelation?

That the Bible is truth is substantiated by insurmountable evidence. The greatest evidences supporting the Bible are the miracles that were performed by men who claimed to be speaking for God. (See Mark 16:20; John 20:29-31; 2 Cor. 12:12.) Jesus recognized the need for proof when he said, “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe” (John 4:48). The signs, wonders and miracles performed by Jesus and the apostles were so obviously authentic, their enemies didn’t even deny their authenticity. The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies that were written hundreds of years before they came to pass exactly as proclaimed, and without failure. The prophecies were inspired of God who could see into the future (2 Pet. 1:21).

What proof can the Quran offer that it is from God? It is totally lacking in confirmation of any sort. Not only is the very existence of the Quran divergent from the Bible, but its lack of credibility is seen from within its on pages. The Quran is filled with contradictions, i.e. it says one thing in one place and denies it in another. It recognizes the Bible as from God but its principal teachings regarding Jesus, love and the means to promote the kingdom are conflicting. The followers of the teaching of the Quran will resort to violence (ruthless terrorism) to promote their cause, but Jesus' kingdom is peaceful and his followers use only the spiritual sword (the Bible, Eph. 6:17) to promote the kingdom (Isa. 2:3, 4; John 18:36).

When the Bible is rightly divided (recognizing that the Old Testament was for Israel only and that the New Testament is for all (2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Cor. 12:13), the diligent student soon realizes that it is the storehouse for truth and that, unlike the Quran, or any other writing, it is free of contradictions that are typical of the works of humanity. Internal and external evidence clearly and overwhelmingly supports that the Bible is the one and only word of God.
